Carb Killa boom!

I’m about to embark on one of my favourite subjects, protein bars. And in the words of Bruno Mars, I’ve got a grenade for ya! (yes, I’m still hip, despite being nearly forty). Over the years I’ve tried countless bars in an attempt to up my protein intake while satisfying my sweet tooth. The perfect protein bar is the Holy Grail of fitness food.

The perfect bar needs to be healthy enough to keep you on track, but not actually taste that healthy - so we can feel we are committing a little sin every now and again. Unfortunately the ones that taste good aren’t healthy enough, while the healthy ones taste like sand.

But wait! I was recently alerted to Carb Killa during my cut – and it looks like I may have to revise this opinion. Carb Killa has long been a staple in the weightlifting community, thanks to its excellent balance of macros and its high protein/low carb ratio.

So, what’s so good about them? Firstly, there are loads of flavours to choose from. In my pursuit of the perfect protein bar I have sampled nearly all of their flavours, and confidently say that they’re all pretty darn good. My favourites at the moment are peanut butter (no surprises there then), closely followed by white chocolate and white chocolate mocha. They are delicious and taste way naughtier than they should.

The next great thing about these bars is the two-Ts – taste and texture – are topnotch. Neither too sweet nor too artificial tasting, Carb Killa bars taste like a Snickers or a Mars Bar, without the guilt or associated nasties. Some of the bars (such as white chocolate and chocolate mint) have lovely gooey centres that rival the taste and texture of many mainstream chocolate bars. There is no grittiness to them, and you never feel like you are gnawing away at a sand block.

Most importantly, one of the biggest benefits of this range are the macros. Carb Killa bars are full of protein but light on carbs and fats, which is what separates them from the pack. Carb Killa bars have between 22g and 23g of protein per bar with net carbs and fat being 15g and 8g respectively. The bar definitely satisfies your appetite and cravings for something sweet. They are also quite filling - so much so that whilst I was on my cut I had half a bar in the morning and half in the evening.

Carb Killa bars were definitely my snack of choice whilst I was restricting my intake. However, I continue to consume them now that I am back to my regularly scheduled program. They’re the perfect snack that won’t compromise your diet or waistline.

There are loads of places (both online and off) to buy them; however, I suggest if you’re in the UK that you buy a box of 12 from protein pick and mix (www.proteinpickandmix.com) so you can try all the flavours in the range. So give the grenade a go!
